Humanihut was pleased to collaborate with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in trialling the innovative Humanihut Field Infrastructure System (HFIS). By leveraging our short-term rental solution, the ADF was able to evaluate its real-world functionality and assess its potential for future applications.
Humanihut supplied a Barracks 32 complete with integrated ensuite facilities, and our latest offering The Barwon, an innovative modular conference room solution which seamlessly joined multiple Huts to create a single, expansive meeting space.
Staying true to Humanihut’s commitment to delivering fully self-sustaining infrastructure, The Barracks 32 and The Barwon were equipped with independent water and power systems, ensuring seamless operation in remote field conditions. Designed to withstand extreme environments, these solutions performed effectively even in freezing overnight temperatures and wet weather conditions.
Deploying the HFIS presented logistical challenges, particularly regarding site access restrictions. Drawing on our extensive experience in disaster recovery zones and remote operations, the Humanihut team devised an adaptive delivery strategy—transporting containers individually rather than via road trains—to ensure smooth deployment.
The HFIS was established fully furnished, offering a comfortable and functional living and working space. Each Hut featured single or bunk bedding, desks, chairs, TVs, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
To ensure uninterrupted operations, Humanihut provided dedicated onsite support, with two staff members conducting daily inspections of power and plumbing systems, monitoring fuel and water levels, and coordinating essential services.
This deployment played a critical role in supporting an intensive ADF exercise. The establishment of onsite accommodation was instrumental in fatigue management, offering a designated space where personnel could rest and recover and reducing the risks associated with driving while fatigued.
In addition to providing accommodation and essential amenities such as a recreation area and laundry facilities, the HFIS supplied a level of comfort that felt closer to home than traditional field accommodations.
Humanihut extends its sincere gratitude to the ADF for the opportunity to showcase and rigorously test both The Barracks 32 and The Barwon open plan solution.
We look forward to receiving further feedback and continuing to refine our offerings to meet the evolving needs of our partners.
